Albert Dock in Liverpool | United Kingdom

Postcard
Liverpool played an important role in the growth of the British Empire and became the major port for the mass movement of people, like slaves and emigrants from northern Europe to America. Liverpool was a pioneer in the development of modern dock technology, transport systems and port management.

The Albert Dock is a complex of dock buildings and warehouses in Liverpool. Opened in 1846, it was the first structure in Britain to be built from cast iron, brick and stone, with no structural wood. At the time of its construction the Albert Dock was considered a revolutionary docking system because ships were loaded and unloaded directly from and to the warehouses.

The dock area is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Liverpool – Maritime Mercantile City.
